Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate the incredible women who shape our lives, and this year, we are honoured to share the heartfelt journey of Sarah Davidson. A woman of warmth, resilience, and deep gratitude, Sarah’s story is one of love that transcends DNA, a belief instilled in her from childhood and reaffirmed in her own path to motherhood.
From a young age, Sarah dreamt of becoming a mother, inspired by the unwavering love and support of her own mum. "My Mum is my best friend and hero," she shares. "I have always hoped to emulate the way she shaped our world so beautifully and share the relationship we have with my own child or, if we're lucky enough, children."
However, the road to motherhood wasn’t without its challenges. The journey to bringing her son, Teddy, into the world was not a smooth one, yet Sarah’s belief in fate and love carried her through. In many ways, it mirrored the path her own mother took, who adopted both Sarah and her brother, teaching them from the start that family is more than genetics—it’s about love.
"They say ‘blood is thicker than water,’ but we say ‘love is the thickest bond of all,’" Sarah reflects. Her upbringing was a testament to this, and when Teddy finally arrived, she experienced a moment of both profound recognition and revelation. "That he was my first blood relative was at once the most profound and also the least important part of becoming his Mum," she says. "That I grew him from scratch and that he is equal parts Nic and I blows my mind every single day, but the person he looked most like to begin with was my brother with whom he shares no DNA, reaffirming for us that family is so much more than biology."
As Sarah embraces the beautiful chaos of motherhood, her greatest hope for Teddy is that he always knows he is loved—by his mum, his grandmother, and his family. She believes that every twist and turn on the road to parenthood led her to exactly where she was meant to be. "I even trust that our hiccups in conception were because it was always Teddy, and he was waiting for us... I was meant to be his Mum, and it’s my favourite role yet."
Sarah’s story is a reminder that family is built on love, patience, and an unbreakable bond that isn’t defined by biology but by the connections we nurture.
